Saturday one of the first events that takes place is the intillation of the new  Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.   This is a solemn event and the new Moderator, Rt. Rev. Angus Morrison, was welcomed  by a prayer by the outgoing Moderator of the General Assembly, Very Rev. John Chalmers.   The former moderators look on from the sides of the platform once known as the playpen!   due to the fact that before the building was modernised for it use as the Parliament in 1999, there was a ballustrade around the platform.

Those days and designs have gone as has much of the formality of frock coats and gowns and replace by colourful robes and dress code of the commissioners who are much younger than at one time.    The average age of the clergy is SCotland is top heavy you could say.  However, it is still lively and interesteing   It has still much to give and the younger generation now are at the assembly in the form of the delegates of the Youth Assembly.   Todays youth are also much more ready to speak and share thier ideas then in a past age. However, they still look to gain more of a powerbase in Assembly..
